Do your people deliver exceptional performance every day?
Employees who feel engaged will go beyond what is expected of them, often called ‘going the extra mile’.
As a result, they will be more productive and motivated towards achieving the organisations’s goals, and be more likely to stay with the organisation.
The CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) describes the benefits of an engaged workforce in relation to the benefits that come from having positive relationships in the organisation.
It describes the benefits as increased “profit, revenue growth, customer satisfaction, productivity, innovation, staff retention, efficiency and health and safety performance.” The following stats show how much performance improvement can result from having an engaged workforce.
Businesses with high levels of employee engagement are:
12% More Profitable
18% More Productive
12% Better Customer Ratings
43% Less Absenteeism
(Harter et al, 2012),(Rayton & Dodge, 2012)
The following facts will drive employee engagement:
- Involvement
- Voice
- Health & Well-being
- Recognition and Reward
- Flexibility
How will I know what the level of engagement is for my business?
The key to getting the highest level of engagement is finding out how employees are feeling about a broad range of factors relating to their employment e.g. Line Management, Rewards, Recognition etc, usually by conducting a survey. This will tell you what you can do to improve engagement levels.
Other methods of measuring employee engagement:
- Staff Turnover statistics
- Focus Groups
- Mystery Shopper
- Absence Statistics
- Percentage of Employees with a personal development plan
